New Testament Studies

Dr. Keith Essex of The Master's Seminary teaches through the whole New Testament: the Gospels and Acts, the letters of Paul from Romans to the pastorals, Hebrews and the general letters, and the Revelation.

This course walks the entire New Testament book by book. Dr. Keith Essex begins with the world between the testaments and the four Gospels, follows Acts and the letters of Paul in the order of his life, Galatians and the Thessalonian letters, the Corinthian correspondence and Romans, the prison letters and the pastorals, and then turns to Hebrews, James, the letters of Peter, Jude, and John, closing where the canon closes, with the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Along the way he weighs the introductory questions honestly, authorship, dates, audiences, and the famous interpretive debates, always pressing toward what each book meant to its first readers and still says to the church.

Each lecture below is a full seminary class session, and each has its own page with the video, a study sheet that walks the lecture section by section, links to every Scripture passage discussed, key terms, a comprehension check, discussion questions, and a printable PDF.

Start with Lecture 1

The course begins with the world the New Testament entered, the centuries between Malachi and Matthew and the Judaism of Jesus' day. Each lecture builds on the last, so start at the beginning and work through in order.
